Gold Quarter Eagles have a face value of $2.50 and were issued from 1796 to 1929. The coins took on standard specifications in 1840, which were used for the duration of the denomination. The coins contain 90% gold and 10% copper that yields a net weight of 0.10294 ounces of pure gold.

The Liberty Head Gold Quarter Eagle was issued from 1840 to 1907. Indian Head Gold Quarter Eagle was issued from 1908 to 1929.
